The Qajar dynasty was in dire straits as a result and it did not help that the Shah was spending his country into a more precarious position than he was already in. By the late 19th century the Shah due to his opulent life style began to issue concessions to each power ruling its upper and lower regions for a fee. A concession is an â€Å"amicable† agreement to give a certain right such as the ability to improve infrastructure in order that the concession holder have a monopoly over this enterprise in its given area. The Nonmarket Environment of McDonald’s - 830 Words

McDonald’s can use the power of social media to interact with its consumers to understand their grievances. Perhaps the negative publicity that the company has received is due to lack of proper interaction with the customers (Selcke, 2012). Through social media such as Facebook and Twitter, the company can enlighten the public on the quantity of calories that is present in every food item. Millions of McDonald’s customers can be reached via Facebook and Twitter. The company should use its Facebook pages to apologize for any bad decisions, set the record straight, and even seek advice from its consumers to enhance positive publicity (Selcke, 2012). Issues Obesity is probably the most significant issue facing the McDonald’s Company today. The corporation has been severally blamed for the menace due to its wide range of junk foods. As the world’s largest fast food company, it has become a target of most health related films such as Super Size Me. This is because the public blames the company for failing to give nutritional information concerning the items on its menu (Baron, 2010). The other controversial issue mentioned in the text is the consumer warnings vis-à  -vis the acrylamide chemical detected in McDonald’s French fries. However, despite the CSPI’s confirmation that the fries contained very negligible quantities of the carcinogen, McDonald’s image had already been tarnished. Leadership Paper - 2881 Words

Leadership project Product Description The project I chose to demonstrate my leadership on was to go around the Frostburg community picking up recycling and then dumping it in a local landfill. I first chose this project to work on because I thought, how could I help Frostburg and give back to the community? By recycling products and going green, these products can eventually be reprocessed and re-used without having it go to waste. I mainly decided to collect recycling to maintain and keep Frostburg clean and liter free. It establishes a healthy environment for locals, students and staff around the area. Going green and keeping the community environmentally friendly is highly stressed around the world today. Any kind†¦show more content†¦With my project, I did this through three styles of leadership, using portions from each. First, I acted as a charismatic leader using transformational leadership to motivate my followers. I then used the democratic leadership style. Unlike the autocratic style, I encouraged my followers to participate in the decision making process by sharing any ideas or objections they had to better my project (Lussier, R. Achua, C. 2010, p. 70). However, I did have the goals and plan already established previously to meeting with them. Once all this was put into place, I focused on getting the job done through the steps I planned using the task-oriented style. Using transformational leadership depends on the situation your in. I figured this style was the most important one to use because it transforms followers into self-motivated â€Å"leaders† while still supporting them (Lussier, R. Achua, C. 2010, p. 350). I wanted to motivate my followers from the start so that they could guide themselves the rest of the way. Because collecting recyclables is mostly manual labor, it was hard to motivate and influence my followers at first. By motivating my self, it inspired Gilbert and Antonio to be motivated as well. Augustine And Two Fathers Of The Greek Church - 1702 Words

Augustine, and two Fathers of the Greek Church, St. Athanasius and St. Chrysostom (Interior of the Basilica.). Not far away, in the center of the crossed halls of Saint Peter’s and over the high altar sits the Baldachin, a giant bronze and gilt canopy with four twisting pillars. Decorated in olive and laurel vines with nude children at play and chasing swarms of bees to come to rest underneath the canopy at a golden dove, symbolizing, peace, victory in peace, purity and unity, and the Holy Spirit, respectively (Interior of the Basilica.; DiMassa, 202-03). The bees symbolize a thing that works for the hive, its only ultimate goal is the continual success of the hive with no recompense to itself (DiMassa, 202-03). The same can be said†¦show more content†¦My next offensive argument is that the Catholic Church creates a space of hypocrisy by publicizing one theme of morality but practicing whatever they like through alteration or blatant ignoring of religious tradition w ithin the clerical order with the intent on making money instead of upholding doctrine. This hypocrisy extends to religious vows that were blatantly ignored by the clergy in the past, and do so now with more secrecy. It is Cannon Law that â€Å"competent authority of the Church† must take vows of the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, obedience, and charity (Catholic Canonists). Meanwhile, in the past as seen by the previously mentioned criticisms of Pope Alexander VI’s use of great wealth to help seize the papacy and the modern â€Å"Bishop of Bling† shows that both the vows of poverty and obedience to those vows are explicitly ignored by those who are supposed to enforce them. As far as chastity goes, Pope Alexander IV had four, possibly more, very public children with a mistress that he was able to legitimize and use for his own political ventures, as well as two other mistresses he had while serving as pope, blatantly ignoring the vow of chastity (M urphy). In more recent days the Catholic Church sex scandal of pedophilic priests and Cardinals shows not only an air of disobedience and sexual immorality, but that the insubordination of the clergy hasn’t stopped since the more â€Å"primitive† days but has

Celebrating Our Veterans Service Essay Example For Students

Celebrating Our Veterans? Service Essay Throughout history, America has shone the bright light of freedom onto the darkness and oppression in this world, and has done so with the help of millions of brave soldiers. From 1776 to 2004, soldiers have and continue to put their lives on the line for the great cause of upholding freedom. Their ultimate sacrifice has allowed the liberty light to shine strong, and to keep you, me, and all Americans safe under Lady Libertys arm. When I see soldiers on television or in a parade, I am reminded of the most difficult but worthy cause they have fought for again and again over all of these years; the freedom, liberty, and life of all the people in America today. I am reminded that the purpose of war is to protect the ideals and beliefs of the fighting country, and in our case, to protect our vital freedom. All wars fought by the United States, from the Revolutionary to Desert Storm, and Operation Iraqi Freedom, have been for that glorious ideal. The Revolutionary War gave the boost to start the budding superpower we are today, and throw off the oppression of Britain. The Civil War protected the union and the freedom of all people with its outcome, and America was reunited once again. World War I, World War II, and all the following wars were not to protect our own freedom, but to generously give the most valuable gift, the gift of freedom to other nations. Soldiers who fought in these wars were the backbone of the cause. Soldiers have truly been the foundation of the great tower of America on which all liberty balances. To be a soldier is a great honor, but it comes with great commitment and sacrifice. The solider, only one of many shines true for the cause as brightly as the Statue of Liberty herself. He must be brave, to face the hard, toilsome trek ahead of him. He must be strong, and push himself to stay headstrong. He must be loyal, not only to the cause, but to God Himself to guide him through. He must be courageous, for at the worst of odds, he must put the cause before himself and fight with all of his power. Last, but not least, he must be persevering, because there are many stumbling points along the rough road to freedom, but the glory of liberty and the power of freedom must be upheld. I have always wondered what it would be like to be a soldier, to be out in the trenches fighting for the very threads that hold all of America together. To know what they must feel! Imagine feeling the excitement of fighting for the God-given right of freedom and to present that great gift to generations to come. Imagine feeling the thrill of defeating those who stand in the way of Uncle Sam and his people, or the exhilaration of knowing that death could be knocking on your door but still snapping to attention to be sent into the crossfire! My hat is off to them. I truly do not know what I would do in that situation. To have the whole fate of the people, the government, and the ideals of America in my handswhat a rush! To be a soldier is to have the most exciting job in the world. I truly do respect them for all they have done, from the defending of Pearl Harbor, to the amazing defeat of the British at Yorktown. All those people fighting for one cause, one direction fighting for freedom, not only for the United States, but for the oppressed people around the world! When I see Old Glory flying in the air, I am reminded of the hardships and accomplishments our soldiers have taken all through these years. The brilliant blue, which flies so high, reminds me of the blue sky, under which countless battles have reigned, some American victories, some not. The whirling white, upon our flag, reminds me of the great white smoke that whirled above many a battlefield where cannon fire and musket shot hurtled mercilessly through the air. The relentless red, flapping in the wind, reminds me of .

We will write a custom essay sample on Speech on Dangers of Smoking and How to Quit It or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Smoking has become a serious issue today as it has become one of the major killers in human. Smoking is responsible for more deaths each year than drug and alcohol abuse, car crashes, AIDS, murder and suicide put together. So, think about it the next time you light up. But people these days are eager to take up smoking. Why? Well, they think that it makes them look sophisticated and grown-up while some smokes because their friends ask them to smoke. Yet, everyone knows†¦ YES, everyone knows that smoking destroys the body. Even a four year old kid knows that smoking destroys the body! Smoking is very addictive. It takes a person about ten to fifteen years to completely give up this habit. Smokers are often irritable when they cannot smoke because their bodies are craving for the nicotine found in cigarette. Ladies and gentlemen, teachers and fellow friends, Smoking is dangerous for smokers as well as non-smokers and why is that so? According to reliable resources, in the year of 2008 to 2009, a statistic has shown that a non-smoker is more likely to die first than the one who smokes. It is also proven by scientists that the smoke blown out by a smoker is more harmful than the smoke from the cigarette which is inhaled by a smoker. Therefore, smokers not only harm their own health but others as well. In other words, a smoker is killing himself as well as the others when he is smoking. Smoking has been found to cause lung cancer and other forms of cancer. Lung cancer claims over 123,000 lives in America alone while another 35,000 will die from other cancers. If you think that smoking will only cause lung cancer, you are absolutely wrong! Cancers of the lip, mouth, stomach, pancreas, kidneys, gullet and cervix are much more common among smokers. Shocking right? Smoking is also said to cause heart disease, bronchitis, asthma, stains our teeth, skins and nails. If you are already smoking, try and break this habit immediately and if you are trying to quit smoking here are three steps how to do it. First of all, think about giving up smoking. I know some smokers will think like this, â€Å"Oh†¦ I can’t live without smoking! Oh†¦ I will die! † But don’t you know when you are smoking; you are killing yourself and others as well! You can be considered as a murderer! I mean†¦ an invisible one. As people say, smoker is a silent killer! So, spend some time thinking about maybe smoking less. The problem with smoking is that it has become a habit. Maybe even a comforting habit. So, be sure to give yourself lots of time thinking about it. You won’t quit smoking unless or maybe until you make the decision so tep two is deciding. Quitting smoking is not an easy decision to make. It needs a strong will power and determination. This is harder than step one but even more important. The final step is the actual act of quitting. The most difficult of the three steps. Now, you just need to decide how you want to quit smoking. Medical assistance, therapy, you name it! Anything that you think can h elp you in quitting this habit will do. You may even fail a few times but don’t let that stop you from trying. I know quitting smoking will never be easy. The famous American writer, Mark Twain has put it candidly but meaningfully. I quote, â€Å"Quitting smoking is the easiest thing in the world because I’ve done it thousands of times†. Unquote. Remember, quitting smoking is a journey. The destination is a smoke-free life. Once again, if you are already smoking, try and break this habit immediately. Think about your family! Be inspired from them! I believe, by quitting smoking you can be a better person and your body scent will smell even better. Smoking makes you look sophisticated? What a crap! It stinks! So, let us all SAY NO TO SMOKING! Thank you.
